What is Reiki?

In the modern world our lives are driven by deadlines, demands and general Hassles, it is easy to lose our sense of inner peace. Reiki is a simple yet effective treatment that will help to regain this inner peace.

Reiki is the generic term that refers to a particular system of energy transference through the hands of the practitioner. This form of hands-on-healing is based on an ancient Tibetan art of ‘healing by touch‘. This healing art had become forgotten until re-discovered by Dr Mikao Usui in the late 1800s. The words Rei and Ki are generally understood to mean (Rei) Universal and (Ki) Life Force Energy. Although based on Buddhist Teachings, Reiki is not a religion and can be experienced by people of all religions and ethnic backgrounds.

More particularly Reiki in its current form refers to the ‘USUI SHIKI RYOHO‘ ‘The Usui System of Natural Health‘. There are three levels of competence in the USUI System:

How does Reiki Work?

Reiki energy is channelled through the Practitioner and into the Recipient, this energy has consciousness and awareness, ‘it knows what is needed’. The energy works on the Mind, the Body and the Spirit, Reiki energy goes to the deepest levels of a person‘s being from where many illnesses originate.

A Practitioner is not so much taught REIKI but opened up to channelling the energy, the only elements of Reiki that are taught are the standard hand positions, the symbols associated with Reiki and the code of ethics associated with the responsibility of providing healing to others.

Reiki is a Gentle, Safe, Natural and Holistic way of treating disease and it will complement and increase the effectiveness of other forms of medication and treatment.

During a Reiki treatment a pleasant feeling of warmth may occur along with the sensation of deep relaxation, in many cases the recipient will fall asleep.

Reiki is used to treat many ailments including Stress, Anxiety, PMT, Menopausal Problems, Migraine, ME, Back and Neck Pain, Arthritis, Insomnia, Tension, Depression, Asthma and provide relief from some chronic Ailments.

The Reiki Treatment

The Reiki treatment lasts about one hour and involves a full body treatment, with the recipient lying or in some cases sitting, fully clothed ideally in lightweight clothing.

The practitioner places their hands gently in a specific sequence of positions around the recipient‘s body, these positions relate to the Chakras and Meridians through which the life force energy flows nourishing the cells and organs of the physical body.

The Reiki Practitioner does not heal the recipient, the Practitioner channels the energy into recipient to allow the recipient‘s own body to heal itself. Reiki also opens the Mind and Spirit to the underlying causes of a disease or pain. This awareness enables the recipient to gain an insight into their problems and assists in making the necessary changes to their attitude and/or lifestyle so that the recipient‘s health and happiness can improve.

During the Reiki treatment the recipient may experience heat from the Practitioners hands; this is quite normal and is caused by the flow of energy from the Practitioner into the recipient. Irrespective of the sensations felt through the treatment; or weather the recipient is awake or drifts off to sleep, the Reiki treatment should leave the recipient feeling Calm, Energised and Relaxed, the full impact of a treatment may not be felt for several hours following the treatment.
